Wish they would do this in our state! –T.J.
Central Iowa’s homeless population is invited to the Iowa State Capitol grounds this weekend where there will be people waiting to help them turn their lives around.
The annual Homeless Stand Down begins Friday afternoon.
Hosted by Polk County Veteran Affairs, the Homeless Stand Down will be on the east side of the capitol building.
The event offers comfortable beds, hair-cuts and hot food for the homeless.
Representatives from the Social Security administration, Veterans Affairs, Iowa Legal and other agencies will be there to help people find resources that can help.
The Homeless Stand Down was named for the military term. For the military, stand down means the short break given to soldiers after long stretches on the front line.
